Career maps are written plans that outline where an employee is today, where they want to be, and what steps they’ll need to take to get from here to there. Rather than asking our candidates, we constantly remind ourselves to ask our employees where they see themselves in five years and how we can help them achieve their goals.
Some employees with underprivileged backgrounds simply don’t know what their career path should be. According to a report by Malaysiakini in 2020, the primary school dropout rate in Malaysia increased from 0.12% to 0.13%, while the dropout rate for secondary school students increased from 1.14% to 1.26% during the pandemic.
Where do these students go?
They may have an abstract idea of how they want to grow, but without a definitive plan, perhaps they’re not likely to achieve as such. This issue can result in job dissatisfaction, lower engagement and productivity, and also potential weakening.
Which is exactly why we’ve made an effort, and thus achieved recognition by the Departmentof Skills Development (JPK) in obtaining the certificate of the National Dual TrainingSystem (NDTS or SLDN) Accredited Center back in December 2020.
The two learning situations that are implemented in this program that we partake in include the actual workplace of practical training and also the training centre of theory and knowledge. Due to our new norm of building a remote working culture, conducting the training sessions online has not been a problem.
The NDTS program endorsed by the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) shares the same main objectives as we do; to produce knowledge workers that possess three elements of competency which are Technical, Social and Humanitarian, and Methodologies and Living. It is known to administer a method based on an industry-driven training concept, which in our case, is security services.
Not only that this program benefits us as employers by saving cost and time in retraining employees and improving quality and productivity, but the NDTS program holds major importance to our employees by providing clear task-scope information, assisting in career advancement, acting as a benchmark for job performance, and also helping our employees make the right decision in choosing their career paths.
Hence, even though some employees happen to not own a local highschool degree, RSS Security believes that everyone deserves a chance. With us, there will always be room to upskill our employees, and satisfy our training needs to be relevant and impactful to them as well.
